In September of 2011, my husband got me tickets for my birthday to what would be the final showdown between the Cubs and Cardinals for the season. It would become the game that Tony LaRussa would later call “the defining game that turned around our season” and the starting point of what would eventually be an exhilarating post season.
It wasn’t of game 6 legendary proportions, but watching the Cardinals destroy the Cubs 1-0 in the 9th inning was the perfect birthday gift.

My favorite Cardinal memory actually isn’t from a St. Louis Cardinal but does involve going to a Cardinal game. Ken Griffey Jr. was sitting on 499 home runs and playing in St. Louis. I had always respected the way he played the game. He played it hard and he also was humble about his greatness and success. I was sitting slightly behind home plate to the third base side about 10 rows from the field when Griffey Jr. came to the plate. I had a great view of that sweet swing when he hit home run number 500. The best thing about the whole thing was that the Cardinals crowd gave him not one but two standing ovations. Proving even more that Cardinal fans are the best fans in baseball. Plus the home run was hit on Father’s Day with Ken Griffey Sr. in attendance and I was watching the game with my own father. The perfect day.
One of My favorite Cardinals memory was on Sept. 8th 1998 Mark McGuire broke Roger Maris’s single season home run record, I remember it so well because it was my birthday. My dad always took my little brother and I to a Cardinals game on our birthdays , im sure it would have made it easier for him to take us to one game considering our birthdays are only 5 days apart, but we loved going to them so much he couldn’t say no, ( thanks dad ).
To this day its still a tradition to go to a game with dad, even tho my brother and I are on opposite sides of the country and dad is still in Missouri, we can’t get enough when its time for another father and sons tradition and our St.Louis Cardinals! !!!!
