December Financial To-Dos

  1. Do something good – Tis the season for giving! December 2 may be Giving Tuesday but there are tons of ways to share your generosity. Start a pay it forward chain the next time your at the drive thru or adopt a family for Christmas. Not only does helping others help them, but it feels good, too!
  1. Be Smart With Your Holiday Bonus. Make sure you use that bonus money wisely by reviewing which areas of your finances could use the boost: put 20% into your savings immediately so you don’t touch it, decide how much you’ll need for the holidays and use the rest to pay down your debts.
  1. Cash in Rewards. If you earn rewards points on your credit cards or through other loyalty programs, check your balances. Redeeming points for merchandise or gift cards can take four to six weeks for delivery, so now is a great time to start cashing out. You could get some of your holiday purchases for free when you are savvy about your credit card use. Look into getting a Tigers Mastercard Rewards Card today and start earning points for next year!
  1. Set Your New Years Resolutions – As your workload starts to slow down for the winter holidays, grab a few free moments to think about what you’d like to work on in the new year. Be as specific as possible: Rather than making a resolution to “save more,” choose a concrete goal like “save another $1,000 for my vacation this summer.” Whatever your dream for the new year, make sure you have a clear idea of what you’re aiming for. With a little planning, you’ll be celebrating your successes at this time next year.
